Plans have been lodged to create three new flats above a vacant business unit on Great Lime Road in West Moor. Great Lime Property Ltd has applied to create three new self-contained apartments in the upper floors of a bathroom showroom at 87 Great Lime Road.
Proposed flats and extension
Designs submitted to North Tyneside Council show the proposals for three two-bedroom flats, ranging from 93m2 to 75m2. The potential flats are not designated as social or affordable housing but will be offered on the open market.
The plans call for the construction of a two-storey flat-roofed extension, new windows to the side and rear of the extension, and re-roofing works. Five private car parking spaces at the back of the buildings, with a secure bin and bicycle stores, have also been proposed.
Ground floor conversion
The ground floor will be converted into a kitchen showroom business. The ground-floor unit, formally a bathroom showroom, has been vacant since September last year. The proposed kitchen business will open, pending approval, from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturday.
Application status
The application was received by North Tyneside Council on 24 July this year and validated shortly afterwards. At the time of publication, no decision has been made by either council planning officers or the council’s planning committee.
The application is open to public representations until Tuesday, 25 August, 2026. A previous application was granted in 2021 to convert the commercial ground-floor unit into a chiropractic clinic, with a dedicated flat for a manager.
