Nearly 900 homes will be built in a new neighbourhood on the edge of Manchester city centre in a £225m project. The homes will be built on land off Dantzic Street, between the plot of land from Gould Street and Dulwich Street, north of Victoria train station.
It forms part of Red Bank, a new community in the landmark Victoria North regeneration project, which is a joint venture between Far East Consortium (FEC) and Manchester council.
Construction Plans and Timeline
FEC has appointed contractor HG Construction to lead the work. The contractor will be tasked with building 316 properties over 34 storeys as a build-to-rent development on the land, along with three other buildings with a total of 579 homes.
Works for the 316 homes are due to get started straight away and be ready by 2029, with the three further buildings expected to begin in early 2027, FEC said.
Developer and Council Statements
Anthony Payne, operations director at FEC, said: “Following significant investment in infrastructure and public realm, the neighbourhood is really taking shape, with new homes, green spaces and the next phases of development now coming forward.
“Residents of the four new buildings that HG Construction is set to deliver will enjoy outstanding amenities and green space in a neighbourhood benefiting from significant investment and just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre.”
FEC secured planning permission in August 2023 for a total of 1,551 new homes in the Red Bank neighbourhood. The wider Victoria North project is aiming to build a total of 15,000 homes within the regeneration scheme.
Broader Regeneration Impact
Councillor Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and regeneration, said: "This is an exciting next phase for the Victoria North regeneration programme that will bring life back to long-term brownfield sites on Dantzic Street, next door to the brilliant schemes already delivered by FEC in this neighbourhood, including affordable housing options that create real housing choice in this part of the city.
"These sites, including the nearby Red Bank plateau, are incredibly challenging to bring forward with historic industrial uses and land contamination. So it's particularly positive news that construction will start imminently on the next site and kick start what will eventually become a 5,500-home investment across Red Bank, complementing both the recently opened St Catherine's Wood park and the 130 social rent new council homes that are being delivered to the north in Collyhurst."
The Victoria North programme will be truly transformative for Manchester, creating a new town within our city through long-term vision and ambition to deliver quality new housing for our residents.
