Luxury eco homes approved for Northumberland village

Property group Indica Homes is set to build nine luxury eco homes in Glanton, near Alnwick, after securing financial backing from a mayoral fund.

The development at Glanton Town Farm involves converting traditional agricultural barn buildings into six two- and three-bedroom homes and constructing three new-build, four-bedroom houses. The new properties have been designed to match the character of the original Northumberland stone buildings of the barn conversions.

Eco features and funding

The developers aim to create environmentally friendly properties, with features including heat pumps, solar panels and under-floor heating.

Indica Homes has received a seven-figure loan from the North East Property Fund, which is funded by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and run by FW Capital.

Developer comments

Drew Carr-Ellison, of Indica Homes, said: “Glanton Town Farm is a fantastic rural location bringing quality homes to the local area. We’ve got a strong focus on sustainability, using recycled materials from the site and employing local craftsmen and contractors. Original barn roof tiles and recycled stonework have been carefully restored and reused, while materials extracted during the development are being repurposed for the site's road infrastructure.

“Working with the team at FW Capital has been great. This investment has been instrumental to the development, which is due to complete in Spring 2027 and is about to go on the market with Propology Boutique Properties.”

Lesley Telford, senior investment executive at FW Capital, said: “Drew is an experienced developer who has completed a number of other highly successful developments.

“This isn’t the first scheme we have supported, as we were pleased to back one of his previous executive residential developments in Eglingham. The Glanton Town Farm site is a fantastic scheme set in the Northumberland countryside with stunning views.”
