Jamie Durie's Emotional Farewell to $29M Avalon Beach Mega-Mansion
Jamie Durie Says Goodbye to $29M Avalon Beach Mansion

Celebrity gardener Jamie Durie has shared an emotional and heartfelt final goodbye to his spectacular Avalon Beach mega-mansion, known as Belah House, as the property prepares to head to auction in March. The 55-year-old television personality, who originally purchased the home for $2.27 million back in 2015, has now listed the luxurious six-bedroom, six-bathroom residence with an impressive price guide ranging between $27 million and $29 million.

A Decade-Long Passion Project Comes to an End

This sale marks the conclusion of a significant era for the well-known TV star, who has dedicated nearly ten years to creating cherished memories within the home while transforming it into one of the Northern Beaches' most striking and recognisable coastal residences. Durie, alongside his fiancée Ameka Jane, invested a full decade into meticulously planning and constructing their luxury waterside family home, designed specifically to accommodate their two young children, four-year-old Beau and two-year-old Nash.

Sustainable Design and Sweeping Ocean Views

The luxurious Belah House stands as a long-term passion project for Jamie, who masterfully transformed the original clifftop block into a breathtaking designer showpiece boasting uninterrupted, sweeping ocean vistas. The property itself represents a lavish multi-level mansion built with sustainability as its foundational principle, featuring an expansive living room, a spacious balcony, and truly scenic oceanside panoramas.

In a reflective social media post showcasing stunning photographs of the property, Durie captioned the gallery with poignant words: 'We will miss these incredible sunsets... after seeing so many around the world, I've never experienced better than this. Thank you to everyone who helped us create this magical house. We will always remember the efforts, the experience and the expertise. Belah House we will miss you.'

From $2.27M Purchase to Multi-Million Dollar Listing

The journey of Belah House involved demolishing the original 1960s four-bedroom cottage and replacing it with a sprawling six-bedroom mansion, into which the family sank approximately $3 million over the ten-year build period. Despite various hurdles encountered along the way, Durie remained determined to create what he describes as an 'innovative, sympathetic and responsive' home that maximised every desired feature without compromise.

The lavish residence boasts numerous premium amenities including a private pool, a dedicated gym, and a state-of-the-art media room, all while maintaining a strong ethos of environmental responsibility. Interestingly, The Daily Telegraph reported last year that Durie had previously received an unsolicited private offer exceeding $30 million for the property, which initially prompted the family to consider a sale.

Documenting the Build and Future Plans

Jamie chronicled the intensive three-year construction phase, following several years of design work, in his television series Growing Home. This documentary-style program detailed the intricate elements that brought his sustainable dream to life, focusing on creating a home that tread lightly on the planet while delivering ultimate luxury.

'I've always wanted to make a show that focuses on sustainable building, not just in the home but in gardens,' Durie explained to Daily Mail during the show's promotion. 'For me, if we were going to make a show about sustainable building, then we should practice what we preach and show our house first. So that's what we did.'

Looking forward, Durie revealed in December that his family is embarking on an ambitious new project: relocating to a fully 3D-printed concrete farmhouse in Byron Bay. This move aligns with his desire to spend more time with his young children on their hobby farm, a decision influenced by the unexpected multi-million dollar offer that ultimately led to Belah House being listed for auction.
