Newcastle United manager Matthias Jaissle has said the club's grand plans for a new training complex underline the 'standards' for an 'ambitious club' and believes he and his young squad have the base to build towards an exciting future in their new home.
Newcastle announced on Thursday that they have struck a deal to purchase the Woolsington Hall estate as the site for their new 'world class' training complex. The scheme, which will cost £190 million, will see Newcastle acquire 260 acres of land to the south of the city's airport and will be ready for the Magpies to move into ahead of the 2029/30 season.
Jaissle on the training ground plans
Jaissle is hopeful he will still be Newcastle manager to see it and he feels it underlines that the club's ambition off the pitch is in alignment with his ambition on it.
"I am really pleased that finally we could solve that and announce it today," Jaissle said. "It will be a world class training facility and sets the standards for this ambitious club. It is a great sign towards the future and we have now a young squad to build for the future. That is a really good combination because this is actually the base, the fundamentals, to build something on. I can't wait to see that development."
"It shows the ambitions of the club and this is great. This has nothing to do for us that we are distracted or anything like that it just shows that the club is also going in the right direction and having big visions."
Conversations with the owners
Jaissle was then asked about conversations he had with the club's owners about their ambition for Newcastle and he insists he has always appreciated their transparency when it comes to the project - both on and off the pitch.
"That they're ambitious in the approach where the club will go in the future. And today with the announcement of the training ground, that's one step towards that bright future the club will have. And they were also realistic and clear about that period right now. That comes also with a huge transition phase. So that's what I liked, the transparency, that they are realistic about that progress. But they also, like I said, ambitious and fast forward in their thinking. This is something I like a lot."
