The Inn Collection Group, a Newcastle-based operator of pubs with rooms, is pushing ahead with further acquisitions after turnover topped £80m in its 2025 financial year. The company, which owns and operates hotels including the Bamburgh Castle Inn and the Tynemouth Castle Inn, reported turnover of £81.5m, up from £80.8m the previous year.
Financial results show investment impact
Accounts for the 2025 financial year show that the previous year's profit of £961,000 turned into a loss of £16.2m, driven by significant investments and expansion. The overall loss for the year also grew, from £14.49m to £23.24m.
During the year, the group traded with 1,350 rooms – up from 1,310 – across 30 sites. Employee numbers rose from 1,244 to 1,300, and the company says this figure is set to grow as more opportunities come through the pipeline.
Acquisition pipeline and new openings
In a report, bosses said: “A continued pipeline of acquisition opportunities is developing at the time of issuing the financial statements, all at different stages of progress. The management team and investors have increasing confidence in the potential of the existing portfolio and potential acquisitions.”
“Potential new build sites and further acquisitions are constantly being assessed and it is anticipated that at least one newly refurbished site or acquisition will be committed to during 2026 and the Group intends to add further sites where suitable ones can be sought at appropriate levels of investment and return on an ongoing basis.”
During the year, the group reopened The Swallow Falls Inn in Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, which had been acquired in December 2021 and closed for remodelling. The Wordsworth Hotel in Grasmere, acquired in November 2022 and closed for refurbishment in November 2025, is due to reopen this year.
Refinancing and future growth
A spokesperson for the group said: “In 2025, the Group continued to grow, opening a new site in North Wales and commencing an extensive refurbishment of The Wordsworth Hotel, which is due to reopen at the end of 2026 in the heart of Grasmere. Revenue grew across Accommodation, Food and Beverage driven by another year of growth in rooms sold and increased customer spend in F&B (food and beverage).”
“During the summer of 2025, the group successfully completed a corporate reorganisation and refinancing, consolidating our trading structure and welcoming HSBC as our new banking partner. This simplified structure, together with the continued support of HSBC and our investors, provides a strong foundation for the next phase of the Group’s growth.”
“Our progress would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our teams across the estate and their continued commitment to delivering great customer service, supported by our head office colleagues. Throughout the year, we continued to invest in our people, training and technology to ensure we deliver the high standards our guests expect.”
“The platform established during 2025 leaves the Group well positioned for the future, enabling us to maximise investment across our existing estate, pursue further acquisition opportunities and continue investing in technology to support sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
