A bizarre Google Street View glitch has sent the internet into a frenzy after the iconic Britannia statue in London's Canary Wharf appeared to have mysteriously relocated overnight.
The bronze monument, which usually stands proudly outside the HSBC headquarters, was seemingly captured by Google's cameras in an entirely different spot—leading to widespread confusion and amusement online.
Social media users were quick to spot the oddity, with many joking that Britannia had decided to take a stroll through the financial district. Threads and X (formerly Twitter) lit up with memes and theories about the statue's unexpected journey.
"Did Britannia get tired of standing still?" one user quipped, while another speculated, "Maybe she’s looking for a better view of the Thames."
Google has since acknowledged the error, confirming that the misplaced image was the result of a technical glitch rather than a supernatural relocation. The company is working to correct the Street View imagery.
This isn't the first time Google's mapping service has caused a stir—previously, users have spotted everything from floating cars to ghostly figures in its panoramic images.
For now, Britannia remains firmly in her rightful place, watching over Canary Wharf as she has done for decades.
