A former Speke pub where many long-term residents tasted their first pint is due to go under the hammer at auction. Mill House on Alderwood Avenue dates back to the 1950s.
Formerly a pub known as The Flying Saucer, Mill House was once described in The Merseyside Pub Guide as "a classic 50s estate boozer". Its unusual name was the source of several stories, with some suggesting it was given the name due to the mysterious objects that would often go flying across the room. Others believed it was due to the venue's close proximity to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
From Pub to Nursery
It was later known as Mill House. The pub closed in 2015, and in 2017 became Mill House Day Nursery (later Merseyside Rainbow Learners Day Nursery).
The nursery received two damning "inadequate" reports in June 2018 and November 2018 due to poor leadership and management and "disruptive" children hindering the teaching of others. It was ordered to make improvements, however the nursery closed not long after its final Ofsted inspection.
Auction Details
The building, which has both commercial and residential potential, now stands vacant, awaiting its new owner. The former Mill House is up for auction with Kuavo Property Services for a guide price of £450,000.
Early inspection is strongly recommended. The property offers a versatile layout across multiple floors, presenting an opportunity for investors and developers seeking a mixed-use building. The ground floor is currently divided between a medical clinic and a former children's nursery.
It has commercial accommodation and could potentially be turned into a residential home. The property has three floors plus a generous basement, five reception rooms and seven bedrooms, with kitchens found on the ground, first and second floors.
