A woman who ignored everyone who told her not to redecorate her living room with a unique shade of beige has revealed the DIY makeover left the space looking far more expensive. The colour completely elevated the whole look of the room, transforming it from a stark white space into something far more glamorous.
When you've got white walls in your home, they can sometimes end up looking a little bit stark and not as glamorous as you'd like. That's why one woman wanted to change the colour up, but people said that she would "regret" doing it. When she'd finished, she realised that it actually looked incredible and had made her home look seriously "expensive," so she was pleased.
A bold decision that paid off
When @thebellahome on TikTok pressed ahead, she was glad that she'd gone with her instincts, because the results were amazing. When she shared a photo of her living room, it was pleasant enough previously, but there wasn't anything particularly remarkable about it, and it lacked a little bit of wow factor.
The moment the camera panned to reveal the finished makeover, it was immediately apparent that the right call had been made on the colour choice, with her living room genuinely looking "expensive."
Reaction to the makeover
She captioned the video: "POV: You finally find the beige that makes your whole living room look more expensive. I wanted something warm, timeless, and cosy, without making the room feel darker...and I think this might be THE one".
"You can barely go wrong with this colour," one person enthused, suggesting they far preferred it to white. Others described it as "elegant" and "too beautiful," noting that the beige shade even appeared somewhat like a "honey" colour, which could make it more appealing than what you might typically associate with beige. Some even expressed their desire to replicate what she'd achieved with the décor in their own homes, calling it their "dream space".
Why beige can elevate a home
Beige paint delivers a high-end, sophisticated aesthetic by reflecting light more gently than stark white and offering a subtle, luxurious backdrop for furniture. Unlike stark white, which can appear cold or clinical, warm beige contains underlying undertones (yellow, pink, or grey) that bounce natural light softly, reducing harsh shadows and generating a glow reminiscent of upmarket boutique hotels.
Painting walls, trim, and skirting boards in tonal shades of beige can conceal architectural imperfections, visually heighten ceilings, and establish an expensive, cohesive backdrop. Additionally, it's worth remembering that trend-driven wall colours rapidly date a room once the shade falls out of fashion. Neutral, warm stone hues convey permanence, restraint, and understated luxury.
