David and Victoria Beckham have reportedly won a planning battle against a neighbour who objected to their plans for a security gatehouse at their Cotswolds estate. The objection has now been removed, clearing the way for the couple to proceed with what has been described as 'Fort Knox-style measures' at their farmhouse.
The Beckhams had applied for permission to build a security hut, a secret tunnel, and a wine cellar at their £6 million property. The neighbour's complaint claimed the security hut would be 'out of place' for the rural area. A local told The Sun Online: 'Farms and agricultural buildings do not have gatehouses and security huts.'
The security post is expected to be manned 24 hours a day, even when the couple are not in residence. The plans also include an underground walkway linking the main house to the garage, and a new basement cellar for wine storage. In documents obtained by the Express, the Beckhams' planning agent stated the development would 'improve security for the occupants of the property.'
The couple purchased the Cotswolds home in 2016. It features a country kitchen with a wood-burning pizza oven, a spacious living room, a plunge pool, and a fire pit. In March, the Beckhams also reportedly bought a £20 million luxury apartment in Miami, complete with a roofed driveway, private helipad, and rooftop pool.
