Alan Carr Acquires £3.25 Million Scottish Castle with Grand Renovation Plans
Photos have been unveiled showcasing Alan Carr's sprawling new £3.25 million Scottish castle, a purchase inspired by his time on Celebrity Traitors. The 49-year-old comedian, who won the first series of the show, bought Ayton Castle earlier this year, marking a significant personal milestone as he approaches his 50th birthday.
Luxury Estate Features and Renovation Details
The vast estate boasts an impressive array of features, including 17 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a five-storey tower, a private chapel, and 106 acres of gardens. In a recent interview, Carr revealed that he has received the survey for the property and is now simply waiting for the keys before beginning extensive renovations. He plans to transform the baronial-style abode into a luxury hotel and spa, clearly inspired by Ardross Castle, where Celebrity Traitors is filmed.
Disney+ Series and Personal Motivations
In February, Carr told The Sun that he had signed a seven-figure deal with Disney+ to film a series documenting the renovation of Ayton Castle, with the working title Castle Man. The show is reportedly being produced by Expectation, the same company responsible for Clarkson's Farm, and will follow a similar set-up to his previous show with Amanda Holden. Carr expressed his lifelong dream of owning a castle, stating, 'Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me - I want my very own castle.' He added, 'Since I was a boy in Northampton, I've always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home.'
Baron Title and Community Response
Just last month, Carr confirmed that he is now a baron after purchasing the castle, as the barony of Ayton dates back to 1324 and was available alongside the estate. He plans to get his own tartan and has shut down reports of being outbid, asserting, 'I have bought it. Someone said someone else has bought it but, no, I have.' However, his grand plans have faced some local scrutiny. A meeting to inform residents about the renovation was postponed due to an 'unprecedented' number of people planning to attend, exceeding the 120-person capacity of Ayton Bowling Club. Residents have expressed concerns that public access to the castle grounds could be restricted, and they have been advised to submit queries to the community council.
This purchase and project represent a major career and personal move for Carr, who enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after his Celebrity Traitors win. The renovation series is set to captivate audiences, blending his comedic flair with ambitious property development.
