Abandoned Welsh Train Station Frozen in Time Up for Sale
Abandoned Welsh Train Station Up for Sale

Holland Arms railway station in Pentre Berw, closed for over 70 years, has been put up for sale with a guide price of £135,000. The building, which retains many original features, offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of Anglesey's railway heritage.

A Station with a Long History

The station officially opened in 1865 as part of the Anglesey Central Railway line connecting Gaerwen to Amlwch. It later served as a junction for the Red Wharf Bay branch line, which closed in 1950, leading to fewer passengers and the station's closure in 1952.

The central line ceased carrying passengers in 1964, although industrial freight services continued for Associated Octel until 1993. The track alongside the station has since fallen silent.

Original Features Preserved

The single-storey, linear building remains largely as it was when it closed. Estate agents Williams and Goodwin, handling the sale, said it is "Constructed from attractive red-and-white brickwork" and retains features including the ticket office window, former waiting rooms with wooden shelving and fireplaces.

The layout includes the former ticket office, general waiting room, ladies' waiting room with former WC, a block of former WCs and a lamp room.

Redevelopment Potential

Williams and Goodwin added: "Situated in Pentre Berw, this historic Victorian railway building presents a rare opportunity to acquire a distinctive piece of Anglesey's heritage, with excellent potential for redevelopment, subject to obtaining the necessary consents."

Private drainage is already in place, adding potential for conversion into a residential dwelling, subject to planning and building regulation approvals. The property also benefits from two covered parking bays and a side garden area.
