Pierce Charles Breaks Rangers Transfer Cover with Three Deals

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles has opened up on his future amid links with Rangers. The 20-year-old is approaching the final 12 months of his contract with the Owls and is on a list of potential goalkeeping options for the Glasgow giants this summer.

Rangers' Goalkeeping Plans

The Light Blues have snapped up Liam Kelly on a new deal but first-choice Jack Butland will see his current deal expire at the end of the 2026/27 campaign. Northern Ireland international Charles worked under Danny Rohl at Hillsborough last season and is one of the prize assets for cash-strapped Wednesday despite an injury-plagued campaign.

While on duty with his country, the shot-stopper insisted he would not rush into any decision on his future. Charles told the Belfast Telegraph: “I’m not really focusing on that. After the ten days in camp working I’ll focus on resting and enjoying my summer. You never know what might happen. We’ll see what happens when it comes to it.”

Dan Neil Also on the Radar

Out of contract Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil is also on the Light Blues agenda. He was high up on Rohl's Ibrox wish list in the winter window, but opted to try his luck in the English Championship with Ipswich Town - but is reportedly set for talks with the Glasgow giants this summer. Former Black Cats striker Kevin Phillips has backed the 24-year-old for the move. He told Best Betting Sites: "I've seen enough of Dan to see that he would certainly be able to play in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers or Celtic. He's technically a very, very good player. He's a box-to-box player, he's got great energy and he likes to get on the ball as well, can score a goal. So I think going to a club like that where, listen, they control most of the games every week, you know, possession, chances created, I think he would fit in no problem whatsoever."

Outgoings: Nsiala and Rice

In terms of outgoings, Clinton Nsiala looks set to return to Ibrox following his loan spell at KVC Westerlo. After joining in January, the Belgian side had the option to make the deal permanent. However, Voetbal Primeur report that has not been picked up after just four appearances for the club. Out of contract Bailey Rice also looks set to make a decision on his future amid talks with the club. After an injury-hampered season, the 19-year-old is back to full fitness ahead of pre-season, as revealed by NXT LEVEL on Instagram. The Marbella-based coach shared footage of him in training on the mission to get back to fitness. Alongside the video, the caption reads: "After a season disrupted by injury, Bailey put the work in to finish the campaign fully fit. Working closely with the club’s head physio, we’ve made sure every box has been ticked throughout his return-to-play process."
