The Chinese-built Jaecoo 7 SUV, which closely resembles the Range Rover Evoque but costs around £20,000 less, became the UK's best-selling car last month. Jaecoo, which only entered the UK market at the start of last year, sold 10,814 models in September, narrowly beating the Tesla Model 3's 9,929 sales to claim the top spot.
Sales surge and market position
This is not a one-off achievement, as Jaecoo also topped the sales chart in March, when over 10,000 units were sold. While the car is not yet the highest-selling vehicle of 2026 overall, its 39,474 sales so far are closing in on the Ford Puma, which has shifted 42,926 cars to date.
Victor Zhang, Managing Director of OMODA&JAECOO UK, said the latest success demonstrates that the Chinese marque is “no longer a newcomer” to the UK market. He added: “The new-plate month is the biggest test of the year, and to more than double our registrations – with the Jaecoo 7 once again the UK’s best-selling car – shows that OMODA&JAECOO is no longer a newcomer to this market.”
Expanding dealer network and warranty
Jaecoo has expanded its retail presence significantly in 2026, with the dealer network likely playing a key role in the sales surge. Over the past 12 months, the Omoda and Jaecoo retailer network has grown from 81 sites to 146 sites. Zhang noted: “Two years after Omoda arrived, we have passed 100,000 UK sales and built a network of 146 retailers. That success belongs to our customers, retailers and partners, who have backed us from the start.”
In August, Jaecoo also placed several key components – including the infotainment system, fuel pumps, alternators and water pumps – onto its seven-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty. The company stressed that this update has been applied retrospectively to every Omoda and Jaecoo car sold in the UK.
Price advantage drives appeal
The primary draw is the price, with brand new Jaecoo models available for around £29,000, or just over £300 per month on finance. By comparison, the Range Rover Evoque costs closer to £50,000. This price gap has led customers to affectionately nickname the new car the ‘Temu Range Rover’.
Jaecoo is likely pleased with its first two years in the UK, having rapidly built sales and a dealer network while broadening its warranty coverage.
