The violent blast occurred during the night shift at the Violanta biscuit manufacturing facility, located near the city of Trikala, approximately 320 kilometres north of Athens. The resulting inferno completely gutted the industrial plant, causing extensive structural damage.
Firefighting crews battled the intense blaze for several hours before managing to recover four bodies from the destroyed building. All of the deceased victims were confirmed to be female workers employed at the factory.

Seven additional individuals, including six factory workers and one firefighter who responded to the emergency, were transported to a hospital in Trikala for medical treatment. Authorities have reported that none of the hospitalised victims are in serious condition at this time.
