Family-run precision engineering firm QCD Precision has expanded its operations by moving to larger premises in Ashington, Northumberland, creating two new jobs with further roles expected as it takes on larger projects. The company, founded in 2018, had outgrown its original base in Blyth.
New Premises and Investment
The move to Ashington was supported by investment in new computer numerical control (CNC) machinery, enabling the company to produce high-precision components for demanding environments. The expansion was aided by the Northumberland Small Business Service (NSBS), which provided support and advice.
Jobs Created and Future Plans
Two jobs have already been created, with commercial manager Greg Stephenson indicating that more roles are likely as the company builds capacity to handle larger projects. Stephenson said: "We are very proud to be a Northumberland business and to be part of the region’s strong manufacturing and engineering base. The move to Ashington is a major step forward for us. It gives us the space and capacity to continue growing while remaining firmly rooted in Northumberland."
Commitment to Northumberland
Stephenson emphasized the company's commitment to staying in the area: "For us, it was important that we were not moving away from the area. We are investing further into Northumberland and building the next stage of the business here."
Support from Northumberland County Council
Coun Richard Wearmouth, Cabinet member for Economy and Regeneration at Northumberland County Council, expressed support for the company's growth: "We are excited to see the future for QCD Precision and the positive impact the company has in the county. The new Northumberland Small Business Service support is here to support all businesses of all sizes and sectors in Northumberland."
Industry Served
QCD Precision manufactures complex components for a range of industries, including offshore oil and gas, aerospace, and defence. Its CNC machines allow for high-precision production suitable for challenging operational conditions.
Praise for NSBS Support
Stephenson praised the practical nature of the NSBS support, noting: "A lot of small businesses are focused on day-to-day pressures, and it can be difficult to step back and properly plan for growth. Having access to support, advice and potential funding can make a real difference. The support from the Northumberland Small Business Service has come at a really important time for QCD Precision."
Future Ambitions
Looking ahead, Stephenson added: "We are ambitious, but the focus is still the same: quality work, reliable service and continued investment in Northumberland. We want to continue supporting UK manufacturing and regional supply chains while building QCD Precision into an even stronger manufacturing business for the future."
The NSBS programme is delivered by a team of experts who work directly with businesses and individuals to help them start, grow, diversify, and sustain their ventures through workshops, one-to-one support, and networking events across the county. The programme also offers specific support for food and drink and farming businesses in Northumberland.
