The Missouri Gaming Commission has hailed the “successful” rollout of legal sports betting in the state, with hundreds of thousands of accounts created on launch day alone. Missouri became the 39th state to legalise sports betting on 1 December, the first state to do so this year, and the first since North Carolina in March 2024.
Major operators including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars and Fanatics have launched online sportsbooks in the state, with some also opening retail locations. The commission praised the “smooth launch” in a statement, attributing it to the “tremendous effort and professionalism” of its rules-writing staff, who worked to meet the constitutional deadline of 1 December.
Data from GeoComply, a geolocation services provider, recorded 2.6 million geolocation checks across the state in the first 24 hours, with over 250,000 sports betting accounts active on 1 December. GeoComply CEO Kip Levin described the first day as “remarkable”, noting that “tens of thousands of Missourians immediately joined safe, regulated platforms the moment they became legal”.
