Khadija Shaw Signs Record Deal to Stay at Manchester City

Khadija Shaw has signed a four-year contract with Manchester City, making her the world's highest-paid women's footballer, after a dramatic U-turn in the transfer market. The Jamaica striker, who had indicated she would leave the club earlier in May, will earn significantly more than £1 million per season until 2030, according to multiple sources.

Shaw, 29, is the Women's Super League's Golden Boot winner for a third consecutive season, with 21 goals in 22 league appearances this term. She is widely considered the best striker in the world on current form. Her existing deal was expiring this summer, and she had been set to leave after Manchester City failed to match rival clubs' offers.

However, over the past 48 hours, rapid progress in discussions led to Shaw signing her new deal on Monday morning. She announced the news during Manchester City's trophy parade on Monday evening, to the surprise and delight of fans. Shaw had always told the club her preference was to stay, calling it 'home'.

Shaw said: 'I'm so happy to be at this incredible club for another four years. I've always said that Manchester City feels like home – I've developed so much as a player and grown so much as a person during my first five years here.' Manchester City's director of football, Therese Sjögran, described the deal as 'a huge statement'.

The news leaves Chelsea, who had been favourites to sign Shaw, needing to secure a top-level striker this summer. Their Australia striker Sam Kerr is leaving the club.
