Households Urged to Check Attics for 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Coin Worth £70k

Coin collectors are being advised to search their attics and old change for a 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown coin that has been listed online for £70,000. The coin, featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II, was minted to celebrate 25 years of her reign.

According to a coin expert known as @CoinCollectingWizard on Instagram, over 37 million of these cupronickel coins were produced, making them extremely common. Despite this, some sellers have listed the coin for exorbitant prices, with one example reaching £70,000.

The expert warned that such high price tags are often misleading, as anyone can list a coin for any amount. He advised checking actual sold listings on eBay or consulting a professional to determine true value.

The coin has a face value of 25 pence, though this is not marked on the coin. Most versions are made of cupronickel, but some proof issues were minted in 92.5% sterling silver. The expert urged caution, noting that the vast majority of these coins are not worth the inflated prices seen online.
