Arsenal have the capacity to spend well over £100 million in the January transfer window, according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire. The Gunners, who spent around £255 million on six new players last summer, including Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, are in a strong financial position thanks to owner Stan Kroenke's soaring net worth.
Kroenke's net worth has increased by 175 per cent since 2021, from £6.4 billion to £17.7 billion. Maguire told Mirror Football that Arsenal have plenty of headroom under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), having posted losses of £70 million in recent years against a permitted limit of £105 million.
Maguire highlighted Arsenal's Champions League participation as a key factor, noting that the competition is now more lucrative than ever. 'Every match that you win is worth £2 million,' he said. 'Arsenal have had a fantastic start to the competition already.' He added that if Arsenal wanted to spend, they could spend far in excess of £100 million, though the availability of players not cup-tied in the Champions League could be an issue.
Whether Arsenal will actually make any signings in January remains uncertain. Last January, the club did not bring in any new players, opting instead to wait until the summer to secure Gyokeres from Sporting CP for an initial £55.5 million. The Gunners were among the top-five biggest net spenders in world football last summer with a total outlay of over £250 million.
