Gardeners Urged to Use Soaking Method for Plants in UK Heatwave
Soaking Method Advised for Plants During UK Heatwave

With the UK heatwave showing no signs of slowing down, gardeners are being urged to use a simple watering technique to keep their plants alive. The method, shared by independent online garden centre Hayloft Plants, involves submerging smaller potted plants in a bucket of water until bubbles stop, ensuring the rootball is fully saturated.

Simple Hack for Potted Plants

A business owner from Hayloft Plants took to TikTok to demonstrate the technique. She explained that often when watering from above, the water does not penetrate the dry rootball. Instead, she recommends placing the plant in a bucket of water and submerging it until bubbles cease. For a quick alternative, she suggests poking a hole in a water bottle lid, filling it with water, and inverting it into the soil as a slow drink feeder.

She emphasised: "Just remember to aim for the rootball, and of course early mornings or late evenings are absolute best practices."

One viewer commented, "I just water my small potted plants until water comes out the bottom." Hayloft responded that any watering is beneficial, but in dry weather, the rootball may not be fully saturated, so the soaking method ensures thorough hydration.

The UK recently broke May heat records, with temperatures reaching 35C in London, making effective watering crucial for garden plants.
