Chad Bragg, chief technical officer at insulation firm SuperFOIL, emphasises that proper airflow is crucial. 2. Battle the Draughts: Cold air leaking through gaps around windows and doors can drastically reduce a room's temperature. Affordable solutions include adding self-adhesive foam tape to windows and using draught excluders for external doors.
3. Use Smart Thermostats Wisely: For those with smart thermostats, setting timers for when heating is needed and identifying a preferred cut-off temperature can prevent costly mistakes like forgetting to switch it off.
4. Install Radiator Reflectors: For radiators on external walls, specially designed reflectors placed behind them can redirect 95% of heat back into the room, preventing it from escaping through the brickwork. Homeowners report this can allow them to lower the thermostat by as much as three degrees.
