DWP Confirms Final £299 Cost of Living Payment Date for Millions on Benefits & State Pension
DWP confirms final £299 Cost of Living Payment date

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has finally revealed the crucial payment date for the third and final instalment of the government's Cost of Living Support, offering vital financial relief to millions of vulnerable households across the UK.

Eligible recipients, including those on means-tested benefits and State Pension, will receive a £299 direct payment between February 6 and February 22, 2024. This marks the last tranche of a total £900 support package designed to help struggling families navigate the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Who Qualifies for the Final Payment?

The payment will be made automatically to individuals receiving any of the following qualifying benefits during the assessment period (November 13 to December 12, 2023):

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Tax Credits (Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit)
  • Social Fund (Winter Fuel Payment and Cold Weather Payment)

For those solely receiving Tax Credits from HMRC and no other DWP benefits, the payment will follow shortly after the main DWP rollout, ensuring no eligible claimant is left behind.

A Lifeline for Pensioners and Low-Income Families

This payment is expected to be a significant lifeline for pensioners and low-income families who have been disproportionately affected by soaring energy bills, food prices, and housing costs. The government's intervention aims to prevent the most vulnerable from falling into further financial hardship.

"This additional support is crucial for those on fixed incomes," a DWP spokesperson stated. "We are committed to providing a safety net for those who need it most during these challenging economic times."

Recipients do not need to apply for the payment; it will be sent directly to the bank account associated with their benefit claims, with a specific reference to identify it as the Cost of Living Payment.
