Kemi Badenoch will on Tuesday morning host an urgent press conference at 9:30 am, demanding that Prime Minister Andy Burnham recall Parliament and take action to prevent thousands of dangerous criminals from being released early under Labour's controversial scheme.
The Conservative leader is expected to urge Burnham to pause the programme, which has drawn sharp criticism from the widow of PC Andrew Harper. Badenoch warned that without a change in the law, paedophiles, burglars, thugs, and grooming gang members could still be set free.
Emergency legislation needed
Ministers have only 24 hours to table new laws before the parliamentary summer recess ends. Parliament is not due to return until September 1, but Badenoch is calling for an immediate recall to keep the most dangerous convicted killers and rapists behind bars.
The early release scheme has sparked widespread concern, with critics arguing it endangers public safety. Badenoch's press conference marks an escalation in the political row over the policy.
