A widow is taking legal action against SP Energy Networks, part of Scottish Power, after her husband was electrocuted while pruning hedges three years ago. Blair Campbell, 35, died when he cut through a wire on a pole-mounted substation in Mobberley, Cheshire, on 3 October 2022.
An inquest last year found that the substation pole was covered in dense ivy, hiding warning signs, and that three reports about the need to clear the vegetation had been ignored. The jury concluded that the power company 'more than likely contributed to the death' due to lack of maintenance.
His widow, Tina Liu Campbell, said she has received no apology or compensation from Scottish Power. She stated: 'There has been silence. As a result my solicitors have had to put the matter back into the courts.' She added that the company has 28 days to respond, or a court date may be set for autumn next year.
SP Energy Networks has since changed its health and safety policy following the incident. A spokesperson said: 'The policies and procedures implemented by SPE...' (the statement was incomplete in the source).
Tina, who works full-time and has two children, described Blair as her 'soul mate'. She said: 'To this day, I still wake up hoping that it’s all been a terrible nightmare.'
