Winter brings increased condensation as warm indoor air meets cold surfaces, creating damp conditions that can lead to mould. A simple kitchen staple—rock salt—offers a budget-friendly solution.
Neil McKenzie from Halton Stairlifts recommends placing containers with 250g of rock salt on windowsills and near damp areas. The salt naturally absorbs moisture from the air, preventing water droplets from forming. Replace the salt every two to four weeks.
McKenzie warns that condensation is not just an inconvenience; persistent moisture can cause health issues from mould spores and damage property. He emphasises that proper ventilation remains important, such as opening windows after cooking or showering and using extractor fans.
This method costs far less than a dehumidifier or potential repair bills.
