Newcastle United are expected to resist the temptation to turn to experienced stars in the remainder of the transfer window, as the club try to stay 'on mission'. Age Policy Underpins Recruitment
Having handed Sven Botman a new contract back in January, part of the plan at United was to hand the Dutchman - now 26 - more responsibility ahead of the new campaign. It means that with at least four more potential signings to come in this window, the club are likely to stick with the age policy which has already been underlined by the arrivals of Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure.
Howe kicked off his recruitment drive at Newcastle back in 2022 and was afforded senior signings such as Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Chris Wood, and has since been handed funds to buy more established figures such as Nick Pope, Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes to name a few.

But moving forward, Howe knows that the club want to essentially use St James' Park as a big stage to allow players to build up their value and earn the club millions to trade further. Howe stated after the draw with Gateshead: 'I'm very supportive of what the club want to do. Yeah, there's been a shift in terms of the profile and the age. Again, that's quite obvious. I've always believed in young players and tried to develop young players, so that fits in line with my philosophy anyway.'

Ross Wilson's Impact
Sporting director Ross Wilson made a mark when the club signed Johan Martinez from Independiente del Valle, and this summer snapped up the services of 6ft 4in striker Afner Cá from Levante. Wilson has been in the post for almost 10 months now and has taken a long hard look at the club's Academy system, bolstering the scouting department around Europe and in South America, as well as changing the club's loan system a little with Shola Ameobi moved to an ambassadorial position.
