Janine Hurst, a 35-year-old stay-at-home mum from Rotherham, has revealed how she lost over 14 stone without any exercise, transforming her life and enabling her to play with her children. At her heaviest, she weighed 25 stone and wore a UK dress size 30.
From school run dread to playground confidence
Janine used to dread the school run, describing herself as "the fattest mum in the playground." She would keep her head down and try to leave as quickly as possible. Her daily diet included gorging on sausage rolls and pork pies, along with nine cans of energy drink, while her children ate healthy meals. Dinner often consisted of greasy Chinese takeaways or kebabs, costing her approximately £6,200 per year.
Health scare prompted change
Her weight began affecting her health and mobility. After her eldest child had a meltdown, Janine strained to get off the floor and dislocated her shoulder. A doctor warned that her weight was putting too much pressure on her body and that if she continued her eating habits, she would die soon. The thought of not being there for her children was overwhelming.
Janine had previously lost over five stone with Slimming World but regained it after becoming pregnant. This time, she decided to overhaul her diet completely without incorporating exercise.
New diet and remarkable results
She now starts her day with an English breakfast fried in low-calorie spray, followed by salmon and salad for lunch. Dinner is typically a roast with plenty of vegetables and boiled potatoes instead of Yorkshire puddings. After just one week, she lost over 14 pounds. One year later, she had shed six stone, and now weighs 10st 6lbs and wears a dress size 12.
Janine said: "It’s changed my life. I can run around with my kids and join in when doing silly TikTok dances. At the school gates, they can’t get rid of me. I’m there chatting for hours. Like many other mums, I’d put my needs last. But, by finally choosing myself, I’ve become the mum I always wanted to be."
