Forest sack Pereira after break clause triggered
Nottingham Forest have sacked Vítor Pereira and appointed Oliver Glasner as their fifth head coach in less than a year. The club activated a break clause in Pereira's contract late on Tuesday, ending his tenure after just four months in charge.
Glasner, who led Crystal Palace to the Conference League title last season before leaving, has signed a three-year deal. Forest had the option to bring in Glasner in December 2023 but opted for Nuno Espírito Santo instead. Now, the Austrian is seen as an upgrade by technical director George Syrianos, who believes his style will better suit the squad.
Pereira shocked by sudden dismissal
Pereira learned of his sacking in an email just before midnight, describing it as a “complete surprise to me and without any warning.” The Portuguese had planned pre-season in Portugal and held transfer talks. He said: “I leave Nottingham Forest with no bitterness or resentment—only respect, gratitude and wonderful memories.”
Pereira replaced Sean Dyche in February and secured Premier League safety, but Forest finished 16th, one point and one place behind Crystal Palace.
Glasner brings stability after turbulent year
Since Nuno left in August, Forest have rapidly cycled through head coaches: Ange Postecoglou lasted eight winless games, Dyche fell out with players, and now Pereira is out. Glasner is expected to provide long-term stability.
At Palace, Glasner impressed despite key players being sold, including captain Marc Guéhi without a replacement. He announced in January he would not renew his contract but turned around the team's form.
Anderson departure and transfer plans
Glasner will start without Elliot Anderson, who is set to join Manchester City for £116m. Forest are targeting Tottenham's Lucas Bergvall as a replacement but face competition.
