DWP Expands Support Conversations to 33 Jobcentres for Disabled Claimants
DWP Expands Support Conversations to 33 Jobcentres (28.06.2026)

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the expansion of its Support Conversations scheme, offering personalised hour-long sessions to up to 40,000 out-of-work benefit claimants. The initiative, part of the Government's £3.5 billion investment to help disabled people into employment, will roll out across an additional 27 Jobcentres, bringing the total to 33 sites across Great Britain.

Holistic Support Beyond Employment

Support Conversations differ from standard Jobcentre appointments by taking a holistic approach to claimants' lives, addressing barriers such as health, debt, skills, employment, rehabilitation services, and housing. The sessions are conducted by Healthcare Professionals, Pathways to Work Advisers, and Disability Employment Advisers, aiming to identify additional support for which claimants may be eligible.

Voluntary and Targeted

New government guidance confirms that Support Conversations are entirely voluntary. The scheme is designed for disabled people and those with health conditions receiving out-of-work benefits. It will be offered to individuals awaiting a Work Capability Assessment who have registered a health condition or disability affecting their ability to work, as well as those assessed as having Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA).

Ministerial Statement

Minister for Employment Dame Diana Johnson said: “Too many disabled people and people with health conditions face barriers that stop them from accessing the support and opportunities they deserve. That is why we are expanding the number of sites delivering Support Conversations from 6 to 33 Jobcentres across Great Britain, giving up to 40,000 people personalised help tailored to their circumstances. Getting more people into good work is central to our Plan for Change and Support Conversations will help us do exactly this.”

Pilot Success and Expansion

Support Conversations were initially tested at six sites, where customers reported feeling “listened to” and “supported” by the initiative. The expansion to 27 additional Jobcentres will allow the government to continue testing the success of the programme through healthcare professionals and disability employment advisors.
