Domino's Pizza, Britain's largest pizza delivery chain, has announced it will create 5,000 new jobs across the UK, including roles for pizza chefs, delivery drivers, and customer service staff. This comes as the company prepares for its busiest period of the year, the festive season.
The new positions are in addition to the 6,000 jobs created since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Domino's has also pledged to provide over 1,000 work placements for young people under the government's Kickstart scheme, a £2bn Treasury initiative aimed at helping under-25s into employment.
Successful Kickstart participants will receive on-the-job training and access to new e-learning modules covering key skills such as timekeeping and teamwork. Dominic Paul, Domino's new chief executive, said: 'It was a privilege to keep our stores open during Covid-19 and to now be in a position to offer thousands more people the opportunity to become a Domino's team member.'
The chain, which operates under licence from its US parent, has 1,184 stores across the UK and Ireland, employing over 35,000 people. Most stores are run by franchisees, except for 36 directly owned outlets in London. Domino's said 80% of its store managers started their careers as delivery drivers or pizza chefs.
During the pandemic, Domino's introduced contact-free delivery and simplified its menu to safeguard customers and staff. However, it experienced a drop in orders after halting customer collections and removing popular items such as the cheeseburger pizza and stuffed crust options. Last year, the company sold almost 90 million pizzas and recently launched a new vegan-friendly range.
