Russell Martin confronted by Leicester fan after Stevenage defeat
Russell Martin confronted by Leicester fan after defeat

Former Swansea City boss Russell Martin was confronted by a frustrated Leicester City fan on Tuesday night, following a damaging defeat for the Foxes in the EFL Trophy.

The Leicester boss has won just four of his first 11 games since arriving in June, a run that has already put him under pressure with supporters, some of whom have taken issue with his style of football as well as the results.

Frank post-match exchange

However, he made his feelings crystal clear on his side's recent struggles in what was a frank post-match exchange, claiming "You got promoted with Enzo... you've been **** since then".

This latest defeat, a 2-1 loss at the hands of Stevenage, was too much to bear for one fan, who took the opportunity to confront Martin outside the ground after the game.

"I've come from Exeter to watch this, I go everywhere to watch this club," he said. "I want you to succeed, but don't play the football the owners want you to play, play the football that we want you to play."

'We've had 135 shots in five games'

"We're not giving you personal abuse..." he added before Martin interjected: "Well, you are."

"But we gave (Enzo) Maresca it," the supporter responded.

It's not clear whether Martin was aware he was being recorded, but the Leicester boss then insisted his style of play was conducive to attacking football.

"We've had 135 shots in five games," he argued. "That's attacking football."

The fan then replied: "But it's not."

'I live and die by the sword'

"But it is, 135 shots in five games is attacking," Martin insisted, before shrugging off a warning he might be heading for the exit.

"You are [going to disagree], but you're going to be another manager who goes, then we go round in circles," the fan argued.

Martin responded: "That's fine, I live and die by the sword. You got promoted with Enzo by the way, you've been s*** since then.

"You got promoted with 96 points. What do you want? Because you had Gary Rowett, you had Marti Cifuentes, Ruud van Nistelrooy. We've had more shots in five games than you've had in 10 or 15 last season, I don't know what you want.

"We'll win and when we win, we'll be fine and you'll enjoy it. I appreciate the support."

Leicester resume their League One campaign by taking on Robbie Savage's Peterborough United on Saturday.
