Chester Zoo, the UK's favourite zoo, is recruiting for a Lead Content Producer to join its wildlife charity team. The role pays an annual salary between £32,725 and £34,000, depending on experience, and includes 33 days of annual leave that increases with length of service. Perks also include free zoo membership for the employee and a guest, plus complimentary tickets for friends and family.
Key Responsibilities and Platforms
The successful candidate will be responsible for animal and conservation storytelling, creating compelling photography and video for a range of platforms. According to the zoo's job listing, the content must support press coverage, broadcast media, and other owned channels. The role involves sharing Chester Zoo's story with a global audience, including its 2.3 million social media followers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Chester Zoo has outlined several essential skills for applicants. These include expert shooting (videography and photography), editing and content creation skills using Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, After Effects and Photoshop, or equivalents. Candidates should have a strong track record of producing content across multiple channels that generates high engagement. Excellent visual storytelling skills and proven experience in a dynamic, fast-paced role delivering content daily or weekly are also required.
Additionally, a relevant degree in media, communications, or filmmaking (or equivalent experience) is needed, along with confidence as a self-producer and strong relationship-building skills to direct colleagues on camera.
Working Hours and Location
The Lead Content Producer role primarily requires 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 5pm. Weekend and evening work is occasionally needed, but time in lieu is provided. Most work is based at the zoo, though hybrid working is available for editing days where the job allows.
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted via the Chester Zoo jobs site. Candidates are asked to include a link to their portfolio, website, or showreel in their CV, cover letter, or application. The deadline for applications is July 26, 2026, but the zoo warns the posting may close early if the right candidate is found.
