A travel expert with three decades of aviation experience has revealed the cheapest days of the week to fly, along with advice on travel insurance and package holiday protections to help families save hundreds of pounds this summer.
Cheapest Days to Fly
Gavin Brewer, head of aviation at Loveholidays, recommends departing on Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays to secure the lowest fares. According to recent flight analysis, these days consistently offer the best prices. "If you're on a budget, be flexible with your departure date and look at holidays departing on either a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. Our research shows you could save up to £24 per person on the flight element of your package holiday, and every little bit helps," he said.
Travel Insurance Timing
Brewer also emphasizes the importance of purchasing travel insurance immediately when booking a holiday. This ensures coverage from the moment the trip is confirmed, protecting against unforeseen cancellations or disruptions. Understanding your policy is as crucial as choosing your destination, as the right coverage can save you from significant out-of-pocket expenses.
Package Holiday Protections
For added peace of mind, Brewer suggests booking package holidays, which offer built-in safeguards under the Package Travel Regulations. These regulations entitle holidaymakers to a full refund if a flight is cancelled without a viable alternative, providing protection not available when booking components separately.
