Asda Worker Hailed as 'Superstar' for Helping Customer

An Asda worker has been praised as a 'superstar' after he immediately rushed to a customer's aid, helping her get home with her shopping. The incident took place at Asda's Birchwood store in Warrington, where colleague Phil spotted a woman attempting to balance a 24-pack of soft drinks on her walking frame.

Quick Thinking and Kindness

When Phil learned that the woman intended to walk to the bus stop, he stopped what he was doing and stepped in to help. According to Asda, the lady explained that her carer usually assists with her shopping but was away, so she decided to 'brave it' on her own. Phil accompanied her to the self-checkouts and, after learning she planned to take the bus home, arranged for a taxi instead. He ensured she had a seat while waiting and loaded all her shopping into the taxi before it departed.

Phil's Response

Phil commented: 'She had trouble walking, so would have really struggled. It wouldn't have been safe to have the items balanced on her walking frame. I made sure I got all the shopping in the taxi for her before it left. She was very grateful, but I am always happy to help and support whenever and wherever I can.'

Social Media Praise

Asda shared the story on social media, prompting an outpouring of praise for Phil. Hundreds of people responded within minutes, commending his kind gesture. One person wrote: 'Well done Phil. It's good to know someone was looking out for this lady.' Another said: 'What a remarkable young man you are, Phil! We all need people like yourself in this world!'

A third comment read: 'Well done Phil that was a lovely thing to do, you have obviously been brought up to be kind and think of others. It's lovely to see there are still some lovely people who are willing to help others.'

Similar Experiences

Another shopper shared a similar experience at Asda, praising the staff for going the extra mile. She recalled: 'Each time I have used Asda stores I have had reason to compliment a member of staff. They are kind, courteous and helpful and something similar to this story happened to me recently. I had just had a knee replaced and was getting basics like milk bread and fresh orange juice. The gentleman at the front of the store realised I couldn't get everything in my car alone and helped me to the car. He put everything into the boot then helped me to get into the car and said have a good day.' She later informed the store manager of the excellent service.

Asda's post concluded: 'Well done Phil for being a superstar and going above and beyond for that lady, we are all very proud of you.'
