Wordle TV Game Show Announced with Savannah Guthrie as Host

Wordle, the globally popular word puzzle, is being adapted into a television game show on NBC, with Today anchor Savannah Guthrie set to host. The announcement was made during Monday's broadcast of the morning show, with The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon serving as executive producer.

Development and Host Selection

Fallon revealed that the project has been in development for two and a half years in partnership with The New York Times, which acquired Wordle in 2022. He praised Guthrie as the ideal host, stating, 'We need to have someone that looks like they play Wordle, someone that knows how to run a show and host it.' Guthrie, an avid Wordle player, expressed excitement about the 'super fast-paced and fun' format, describing it as a 'great family game.'

Production Details

Filming is scheduled for this summer, with casting currently open until May 29. The air date has not yet been announced. Guthrie noted that production was originally set to begin in March but was postponed due to the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing for nearly 100 days. She thanked the team for their patience, saying, 'Hollywood is a really tough business... they just stopped everything and said, “We’ll wait for you.”'
