EasyJet and TUI Assure No Fuel Surcharges Amid Global Shortages

UK airlines easyJet and TUI have moved to reassure passengers that flights and package holidays will not be affected by global fuel shortages, following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and rising jet fuel prices.

EasyJet confirmed it is not experiencing any disruption to fuel supply and is operating flights and package holidays as normal. The airline also stated it is not making any changes or cancellations due to the shortages.

Sophie Dekkers, Chief Commercial Officer of easyJet, said: 'We are always focused on offering low fares and with around 40% of our fares this summer still available for under £50, now is a great time to book. We’ve launched our Book with Confidence Promise which guarantees that the cost of flights and package holidays will stay fixed after booking and we will not add fuel surcharges, protecting customers from increased fuel cost.'

TUI echoed easyJet's stance, with Neil Swanson, managing director of TUI UK&I, stating: 'We have good visibility on fuel supplies and are operating our holiday programme as planned, with no flights being cancelled due to fuel shortages. Our careful planning across fuel, flying and hotel capacity means we’re able to continue offering great value and stable prices – with no fuel surcharges added by TUI.'

The assurances come amid global fuel shortages triggered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and rising petrol and diesel prices following the attack on Iran on February 28. Both airlines emphasised that customers can book with confidence, with TUI noting that all package holidays are ABTA and ATOL protected.
