Race Across the World winner Kush has confirmed his next career move after winning the BBC show alongside his best friend Jo. The duo, both from Liverpool, triumphed in the sixth series of the travel programme, becoming the first pair to cross the finish line at Lake Khövsgöl in northern Mongolia.
New Career Plans Revealed on BBC Breakfast
Appearing on BBC Breakfast, Kush and Jo spoke with hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay about their future plans. Jo expressed a desire to venture into content creation, while Kush revealed his ambition to pursue music. “I've got my first song coming out on Friday, which is so exciting,” Kush said. “Music was always sort of plan A for me before the whole TV thing. And so going back to that, I'm really going to give it a go.”
Jo added: “I think we've both got some plans to continue our travelling - we've both still got the travel bug. I've got South America in a couple of weeks. I'm going to stay there for three months. And I think I'm going to give content a go, just vlogging. And I possibly might lean into speaking about mental health, and especially men's mental health, I think it's so important to talk about.”
The Race and Its Challenges
The race saw five teams start in Palermo, Sicily, and travel over 11,000 kilometres across Europe and Asia to the finish line in Mongolia. Participants had no phones or bank cards, only the cash equivalent of the plane fare from Italy to Mongolia. Jon Kay noted that Kush and Jo displayed a “steeliness” from the beginning. Jo agreed: “Once we got in, once we realised we were actually a competitor in season six, the main objective was to win.”
Reflecting on their victory over siblings Katie and Harrison, in-laws Mark and Margo, cousins Puja and Roshni, and father-daughter duo Andrew and Molly, Kush described it as “like a fever dream.” He added: “It was one of those where we actually had, we struggled for two months of lack of sleep, lack of food, and then to have the results that we did was so validating, everything that we'd sacrificed all the tough times, it was all worth it.”
Kush also shared a humorous anecdote: “But it's quite funny how before, we were constantly throughout the entire trip, we're saying, 'If we win' or 'When we win', we'd say, 'How are we going to celebrate?' I mean, so many ideas. 'We'll do this. We'll do that. We'll say this.' And then the second we opened up the book, it was all out of the box.” Jo laughed, recalling: “When I watched the footage back when the final episode aired, I didn't realise how loud I was screaming. Oh, my God. It was the craziest feeling in the world. Craziest feeling.” Kush concluded: “Doesn't feel real.”
Race Across the World aired on BBC One. BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am.
