Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of midfielder Ederson, making him the first signing of the Michael Carrick era. The deal, worth an initial €40.5 million (£35 million) plus €4.5 million (£4 million) in add-ons, is expected to be completed by early July after the Brazilian passes a medical.
Ederson, 26, will sign a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months, according to reports. The move comes as Carrick, who was appointed head coach permanently after winning 11 of his 16 games in interim charge, looks to rebuild United's midfield following Casemiro's departure.
United are also targeting additional midfield reinforcements this summer. Mateus Fernandes of West Ham is a reported target, though Arsenal are also interested following West Ham's relegation. Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali, both with Premier League experience, are also admired by the club.
Elliot Anderson, who impressed for Nottingham Forest and is expected to play a key role for England at the World Cup, is another player on United's radar. However, Manchester City are favourites to sign the former Newcastle star, who could command a fee in excess of £100 million.
