Manchester United and England defender Harry Maguire has revealed that he is contemplating a move into coaching once his playing days are over. The 33-year-old, who recently signed a new contract with the Red Devils until 2027, has already obtained his UEFA B coaching licence and co-founded a football feedback application called Feedz, which he believes will assist him in his potential new career path.
Plans for Life After Football
Speaking to Training Ground Guru, Maguire emphasised the importance of feedback in player development. "Better feedback builds better players. I've always believed, from a young age, that feedback is so important and can make you a much better player in the future," he said. The centre-back added that he has "thought about it (coaching) in the future" and that Feedz would be a helpful tool if he pursues that route.
Maguire criticised the current feedback system in academies, noting that coaches often lack time to provide individualised feedback after long sessions. "There's so much time these coaches have to put into sessions and the sessions are finishing late at night. They can't really give too much feedback to each individual player. This is where Feedz can step in. It saves so much time. It's so simple. I think it'd be really beneficial to the club and the players," he explained.
Career Highlights and Future
Maguire has enjoyed a distinguished career, representing Sheffield United, Hull City, Wigan Athletic, Leicester City, and Manchester United. He became the most expensive defender in world football when he joined United in 2019 for 80 million pounds. To date, he has made 270 appearances for the Red Devils and earned 66 caps for England.
Despite his coaching aspirations, Maguire insists retirement is not imminent. After signing his new contract, he stated: "Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together."
Maguire's contract includes an option for an additional year, keeping him at Old Trafford potentially until 2028. He remains focused on contributing to the team's success, citing the squad's ambition and potential to fight for major trophies.
