The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed the precise date when millions of pensioners across the UK will receive a £300 cost of living payment this autumn. The financial support is part of the government's ongoing effort to help households cope with rising expenses.
When Will the Payment Be Made?
The DWP has stated that the £300 payment will be automatically deposited into eligible recipients' bank accounts between 31 October and 19 November 2023. This marks the second instalment of a three-part support package totalling £900 for the 2023/24 financial year.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the payment, individuals must have been entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for the 2023/24 winter period. Most recipients will be those of State Pension age, though some younger claimants on certain benefits may also qualify.
Key Eligibility Criteria:
- Born on or before 25 September 1957
- Received a Winter Fuel Payment in the previous year
- Resident in the UK during the qualifying week (usually September)
What You Need to Do
Eligible pensioners do not need to apply for the payment—it will be processed automatically. The money should appear in bank accounts with the reference 'DWP COL' alongside the National Insurance number.
Those who believe they qualify but don't receive the payment by the deadline are advised to contact the DWP directly.
Future Payments
A final £299 payment is scheduled for spring 2024, completing the £900 support package announced in last year's Autumn Statement.
