Grace Tame's foundation has announced its closure, citing difficulties in securing long-term funding. The former Australian of the Year established the foundation in 2021 following her advocacy for child sexual abuse survivors and law reform.
In a social media post on Thursday, the foundation stated it had reached a crossroads and would finalise the closure process in the coming weeks. The foundation highlighted its achievements, including shifting the national conversation on child safety and pushing for the harmonisation of survivor identification laws across Australia.
Tame, who was abused as a teenager by her high school teacher, previously claimed in March that she had lost speaking engagements due to a media 'smear campaign'. This came after she faced criticism from Jewish groups for leading a chant of 'globalise the intifada' at a protest in Sydney.
The foundation, which had four board members and over 48,000 Instagram followers, also supported hundreds of survivors seeking justice. Tame was named one of Time magazine's next generation leaders in 2021.
