The Buffalo Bills have signed former Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Mike Danna to a one-year contract, adding a two-time Super Bowl champion to their roster as they prepare for a new era.
Danna's Move to Buffalo
Danna heads to Buffalo after six seasons with the Chiefs, joining the Bills to help usher in a fresh chapter for the organization. The Bills enter the 2026 campaign with Joe Brady as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Sean McDermott. They will also debut a new 60,000-seat stadium this season.
Despite significant changes, the goal of winning the franchise's first Super Bowl title in the Josh Allen era remains unchanged. Danna's arrival is seen as a shrewd addition, given his experience in securing the Lombardi Trophy.
Danna's Career and Background
The 28-year-old was released by the Chiefs in February as part of salary cap adjustments after Kansas City missed the playoffs in 2025. Danna was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round in 2020 and has recorded 21.5 regular-season sacks and two postseason sacks in his career.
Danna is also remembered for a humorous moment when he inadvertently started a press conference shortly after teammate Travis Kelce's engagement to Taylor Swift was announced. Unaware of the news, Danna laughed, saying, 'Man, I don't know nothing. I just got told 30 seconds ago! I'm so happy for them.'
Bills-Chiefs Rivalry
The Bills and Chiefs have developed a growing rivalry in recent years, with Kansas City often standing between Buffalo and a Super Bowl appearance. Since 2021, the Chiefs have eliminated the Bills from the playoffs four times. This made Buffalo's loss to the Denver Broncos last season particularly painful, as the Chiefs were not in the path to the Super Bowl.
Additionally, the Chiefs traded with the Bills to acquire the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, which they used to select Patrick Mahomes.
