I queued early to try out Victoria Beckham's new collaboration with GAP. As a self-confessed shopping addict, I've made it my new year's resolution to be more mindful about the clothes I buy. That includes double checking price tags, thinking hard about whether I need an item and going the extra length to see whether my new purchase will actually last.
With polyester fashion becoming the norm, I'm on a mission to shop for good quality materials - even if that means paying a higher price - without leaving the high street. So you can imagine my joy when Victoria Beckham announced that she'd be collaborating with GAP, bringing her designer flair to the high street.
According to the website, the collection is made up of 38 signature pieces, designed to inspire confidence, femininity, power and elevation. Blending art and ease.
I visited the Westfield White City store early, joining the queue of people wanting to get their hands on VB's goods - before they inevitably sold out.
First Impressions of the Collection
In the shop window, the Khaki Green High Waisted Cargo Trousers, £95, and Blue Hooded Pullover Jacket, £95, caught my eye. I loved the asymmetric detailing of the trousers, and the bright bold blue of the windbreaker jacket, which will no doubt be one of the range's bestsellers.
Once we got into the store, I pushed old shopping habits to the side, found the items I wanted to try on, and immediately checked the materials label.
Comparing the Hoodies
I'd heard people in the queue raving about Victoria's Grey Extra Heavyweight French Terry Hoodie, which looks suspiciously similar to the OG GAP hoodie. Comparing the two, Victoria's Grey Extra Heavyweight French Terry Hoodie is £95 and is made up of 82% cotton and 18% polyester, a decent mix combined with the sturdy feel of the jumper. However, the OG hoodie isn't much different in composition, boasting 72% cotton and 20% polyester, but the price difference could be a deal breaker, as it comes in at £70, just £25 cheaper than VB's.
My Favourite Item: The Jeans
My favourite item from the range has to be the White High Waisted Arc Jeans. The barrel jean style suits my bottom-heavy figure perfectly, without feeling overly baggy or too tight. The quality material composition reflected in the feel of these jeans - they're 100% cotton so, despite the £85 price tag, they're certain to last a while, making them perfect value for money and a great fashion investment. I will say that I'm 5"4 and they came up a little long, but nothing a pair of heels or re-hemming can't fix.
Double Denim Outfit
I paired the jeans with matching White Denim Zip Shirt which also comes in Denim Blue. In total, this double denim outfit would set you back £160, but makes for a bright, stylish outfit for the warmer months.
The Blue Hooded Pullover Jacket is £95. Overall, the range offers a mix of quality fabrics, with many pieces featuring high cotton content, which surprised me pleasantly. For those looking for durable, stylish high-street fashion, this collaboration is well worth considering.
