TUI Confirms Free Water on Flights for Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair Passengers
TUI Confirms Free Water on Flights for Major Airlines

TUI has confirmed a key airport rule that applies to passengers flying with all airlines, including Jet2, easyJet, and Ryanair. The clarification came after a passenger inquired about whether water is free on flights.

Passenger's Question Sparks Debate

Sharon, a traveller who had not flown since 2007, took to Facebook to ask TUI's customer service team: "Is water free on flights please. Not flown since 2007 so wasnt sure x (if not can full bottles of water be purchased after security)".

After some confusion over whether she meant bottled or tap water, she clarified: "I never asked for anything free. I was referring to tap water. As I've not travelled since 2007. The 100 ml threw me a bit as I was thinking it had to last the whole flight."

Fellow Travellers Weigh In

Several people pointed out that buying water on board would come at a cost. Lisa said: "Nothing free on flights," noting that both hot and cold water were once complimentary "back in the day". Some travellers cautioned against drinking "tap water" from the aircraft, with one stating: "Personally I wouldn't drink tap water from the aircraft as the storage tanks are not the cleanest."

Cindy suggested: "When waiting in departure lounge buy a bottle of water each from chill cabinet in Boots, by far the cheapest. Enjoy your holiday." Others noted that some airports have eased liquid restrictions. Helen commented: "Gatwick allows full sized water bottles through security now," and Kevin advised: "Depends where you are flying from. At some airports you can take up to 2 litres of liquid through security now."

Free Alternatives to Buying Water

Several travellers offered budget-friendly solutions. Deborah said: "Take an empty bottle through customs and fill it from the water fountains near the toilets. Why pay when it is free." Linda added: "Take an empty cooler bottle with you and fill it after you've gone through security at the free water stations. Water is expensive in the shops and on the plane!"

Official Liquid Rules on Flights

According to the government website, there are restrictions on liquids in hand luggage. It advises packing liquids in hold baggage where possible. Liquids include all drinks, liquid or semi-liquid foods, cosmetics, sprays, pastes, gels, contact lens solution, and similar items.

For hand luggage, the rules depend on the airport. At most airports, containers larger than 100ml are not allowed through security, even if only part full. However, some airports allow up to 2 litres. Exemptions exist for baby milk, medicines, special dietary foods, and duty-free liquids. Passengers should check rules at their departure and transit airports.
