The Works has recalled its Playworks My First Baby Spinner over fears that small parts can detach or break off during use, posing a choking risk to young children. The retailer has urged anyone who bought the toy to stop using it immediately and return it to a store for a full refund.
The recall applies to all batch codes of the Playworks My First Baby Spinner, including 186334, 184455, 181089, 181088, 181087, 181086, 180872, 180873 and 174513. The affected barcode number is 5052089365995.
Why the toy was recalled
An Office for Product Safety & Standards spokesperson said: "The product presents a risk of choking as it has small parts that can detach or break off during reasonably foreseeable use."
"These small parts pose a choking risk to young children, particularly those under 36 months of age who have a natural tendency to explore objects by placing them in their mouths. The product doesn't meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011," the spokesperson added.
What shoppers should do
In light of the issue, the spinner has been recalled from end users by The Works. The Office for Product Safety & Standards advised: "We recommend owners stop using this product immediately and keep it out of the reach of babies and children."
A The Works spokesperson said: "As a precautionary measure, The Works is recalling the above product due to a potential compliance issue we've identified. With the consideration of our customers in mind, we're asking you to please stop using the product immediately and return the product to any of The Works stores for a full refund."
The spokesperson added: "You don't need a receipt when returning the product. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your co-operation.
