Tesco shoppers with a Clubcard have been urged to check the expiry dates of their vouchers as soon as possible. It comes as £11 million worth is due to run out on Monday, August 31, MoneySavingExpert reveals.
How to check voucher expiry dates
Tesco Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years from the date of issue, and checking their validity is fairly straightforward. If you have paper vouchers, check the date on the voucher itself, and if you've lost it or have misplaced any, you can also check on the Tesco Clubcard site or app.
To check online, go to the Tesco Clubcard website, select 'Clubcard account' and then 'Vouchers'. It is important to note that you will need to be registered for a Tesco account and know your Clubcard number, which you can find printed on Clubcards, your digital Clubcard, and on Clubcard key fobs.
Once you've done this, you should be able to see a table listing your available vouchers and their expiry dates. To check your vouchers in the Tesco app, open it and go to 'Clubcard', then the 'Vouchers' section.
How to extend vouchers
While vouchers have a two-year validity period, there is a way to extend them. MoneySavingExpert explained the simple method. The first thing to do is make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page or donate to one of its partner charities. The remaining balance should then be credited back to your Clubcard account.
For example, if you spend 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher, you should get £4.50. You can then swap your points for vouchers manually or wait for them to be converted with your next statement. The expiry date for these new vouchers will be two years in the future.
It added: "You'll need to do this for each voucher, so it's worth weighing up if it's actually worth it for smaller denominations. For example, if you have a £10 voucher, it could be worth it. If you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so."
You must make sure to extend your vouchers before 11.59pm on August 31, as they expire then.
