Tesco and Asda are offering drivers up to £8 off a tank of fuel through special promotions, as pump prices reach record highs. The deals require shoppers to spend a minimum amount in-store to qualify for fuel discounts.
Diesel prices hit a new high on Monday at 199.18p per litre, according to the RAC, surpassing the previous record set after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. By Wednesday, the average price for a litre of diesel had climbed to 200.11p, while petrol cost 174.89p on average.
Tesco's Fuel Discount Offer
Tesco already offers the cheapest supermarket fuel at 197.6p per litre on average, according to the RAC. However, customers can save an additional 8p per litre by spending £60 or more in-store by 18 October. The coupon, printed on the receipt, can be redeemed until 25 October, with a maximum discount of £8.
The offer excludes the Isle of Man, Tesco Express stores selling Esso fuel, unmanned petrol stations, and pay-at-pump services. Customers must pay for fuel in person at a staffed kiosk, and only one coupon can be used per transaction. The minimum fuel purchase is £1.
The £60 minimum spend excludes lottery products, e-top up, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medicines, infant milk formula, and purchases from cafés, tobacco kiosks, opticians, phone stores, concessions, Travel Money, Tesco Bank, and Tesco Whoosh.
Asda's Fuel Saving Promotion
Asda customers who spend £40 or more in a single in-store transaction between 23 September and 14 October will receive a 5p-per-litre fuel coupon automatically added to the Asda Rewards app. The coupon can be redeemed on a single fuel purchase until 31 October at 262 participating Asda and Asda Express sites.
Asda is the second-cheapest supermarket without the deal, charging 197.8p per litre on average, according to the RAC. The offer could save motorists up to £3 per fill-up on a typical 60-litre family car. Shoppers in Scotland are excluded from the promotion.
