Supermarket Wheat Biscuit Taste Test Winner Cheaper Than Weetabix

A taste test of wheat biscuits from eight supermarkets has found a winner that is £1.70 cheaper than Weetabix. The test, conducted by a lifestyle reporter, compared own-brand versions from Aldi, Sainsbury's, Lidl, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose and Marks and Spencer against the original Weetabix.

The cheapest option, Asda's wheat biscuits, earned a spot in the top three for holding their shape and texture well after milk was added. However, the overall winner was Sainsbury's own-brand wheat biscuits, priced at £1.80 for a 24-pack compared to Weetabix's £3.50. The reporter praised their ideal texture, taste and sweetness, noting they retained a satisfying bite even after milk was poured on.

Other brands performed poorly. Morrisons wheat biscuits were rated the worst, with an unpleasant, cardboard-like taste. Waitrose and Lidl versions also disappointed, with Lidl's turning soggy quickly and Waitrose's having an awful taste. Aldi's 36-pack was criticised for absorbing milk instantly and becoming mushy.

Tesco's wheat biscuits were described as genuinely tasty with excellent texture, making them a close supermarket alternative. Weetabix itself was found to be fairly run-of-the-mill, with the reporter unconvinced it justifies the higher price. The test used identical amounts of milk to gauge absorption rates.
