Supermarket Breakfast Teas Tasted and Rated: Best and Worst

In a taste test of supermarket own-brand breakfast teas, Clipper organic emerged as the top performer, scoring 9/10 for its rich, bright and complex flavour. However, not all own-label blends fared well, with Waitrose English breakfast scoring just 3/10 for its weak and watery taste.

The test, which compared eight teas, found that Asda's offering was described as 'rough' and 'inelegant', scoring 5/10. Tesco's tea was deemed 'rudimentary' and lacking in richness, earning 6.5/10.

M&S's Luxury Gold impressed with its strong, well-rounded and fragrant profile, scoring 8/10. Sainsbury's Red Label was praised for its fresh, juicy and zesty flavours, though it lacked the smooth power of Clipper, scoring 7.5/10.

Overall, the test highlighted that while supermarket own-brands can offer good value, they often fall short of premium brands like Clipper and Yorkshire Tea in terms of depth and complexity.
